"A Long Hard Journey"

"We are not enemies but friends!" These words of Abraham Lincoln as quoted by then President-elect Barack Obama, express the gist of the challenges which lay ahead for the United States of America! Following the Biblical ideal, that all men are created equal, and embracing the creed of "WE the people", is the essence of what is captured, by the brushes of railroad artist Robert West, in this soon to be released print; A Long Hard Journey.

These words echo the struggle and triumphs of the Brotherhood of Pullman Porters, the Civil Rights Movement and the history of the American people! The original Painting captures the diversity and essence of not only the campain of President Obama but also the achievements of some of the individuals, that for so long sought "change" and healing of a divided nation!
